Heimaey Iceland
Dear JIAGGJ,
Yesterday I was on the ship's computer and had to have 3 goes to get through and it was so slow I nearly fell asleep! To day I am in the Library and it is the opposite.
Heimaey is one of the Westman Islands south of Iceland. There was an eruption in 1973 when the ground opened in a long line from the sea to the town and hot lava gushed up into the sky and covered a lot of the town. The houses are still underneath the lava although parts of 2 were sticking out. As the lava fell to earth it formed a volcano. We climbed up part of it and it was very steep.Grandad found a hole that was hot inside and there was still steam coming out of the ground in places. They take bread up there to bake !
In the cliffs we saw lots of puffins. They are so small but look very cute. They are caught in nets and EATEN - very tasty we were told, stuffed with prunes, ginger and rhubarb jam!
A young boy was swinging on a rope from a cliff to take the birds eggs which are also eaten. There are thousands of them all on little ledges up the cliff which are very high.
There is a lot of fishing here (it smells of fish in the harbour) so there are a lot of boats and factories.
Iceland is the land of the midnight sun. When we go to bed it is bright daylight so you would love it here!
We are ready for 2 days rest on route to Ireland to catch up on the reading. We have had some sun today and were told that they usually have a lot of wind but not today. We are charmed!
Iceland has been wonderful. We have had excellent tours and seen so much but the weather has amazed everyone.
We are thinking of you all and hope you have looked us up on the map. I will quiz you next time I see you so get ready!
Lots and lots of love,
Grandi xxxxxxxxxx

Dear All,
Dad and I had plenty of time to read through all your news. On the ship it is 18p a minute and you can see the money totting up as you wait, and wait, and wait and still don´t get connected!
Well you all have been busy, when we are away it is lovely to hear what is going on, it makes you feel closer.
How does Georgie feel about her hair? How did the final concert go? Has your face healed Abi?
Sorry we missed Rob(is he?)Well done with the sports J and G. Pleased A is officially a beaver now. Pleased to hear about Lucy and Pete. Off the net until Cork.
Love Mum and Dad xxxx

Hi Mum & Dad,
The last leg of Iceland sounds really Exciting - hope you didn't eat Puffin! Georgie is really pleased with her hair she keeps patting the bottom of her bob (Rob not quite so sure) and Jen rather put out with all the attention Georgie is getting I may well get her wanting to be cropped next time round. Yes, no ill effects after the squeezing of my face thankfully. Off to MK tomorrow for Sam's hen night at Wilton Hall. I'm sleeping at Jo's so I'll be guarenteed a little bit of a lie in. Hoping to meet Beck & gang at Willen on Sunday for the Dragon Boat Racing.
Don't know if you'd started to think about your plans and if you even have a calender with you but Jenni is performing in their Summer Play on Thursday 10th July 2008 at 6.30pm. I was going to see if I could get an extra ticket and if you'd like to come up Thursday 10th (or before) for BBQ on Sat 12th so you could see Jenni's play as well. I'll try to get ticket anyway as I can always give one back if not required.
Lots of love Abi XXXX

Dear mum and dad
Hope you are enjoying the rest after your hectic bout of sight seeing. Did you try the puffin, sounds quite nice if you're missing your breakfast prunes.
We've seen the bowl and Georgie looks very cute, we could be 'twinnies'! Didn't notice any big boils on Abis face so I can give a thumbs up for the mole..
Lovely afternoon at Willen lake, very hot so ideal to watch the dragon boats racing and see Dan the Hat doing a magic show. Ice creams all round and good crowd control so looks promising for Llandudno.
Don and I enjoyed the 40th party on Saturday in Woburn village hall and Alex (Caroles daughter) babysat for us. Left a scene of chaos as all day at the school fete so wired up with lots of sweets. Issy voluntereed to go in the stocks but we all missed her with the wet sponge.
Alex got first day at new school tomorrow, I've found out his new teacher but Issy doesnt know her so must be new.
Love to you both

Hi All,
Hectic weekend I came home for a rest. Hen night at Wilton Hall with Jo Sat night but not rreally our cup of tea, lots of people we didn't know and the band were a bit dire and food a bit sweaty. Left at 12.30 and Jo and I decided to go to PINK PUNTERS! Paid £7 to get in and last all of 38 mins. All boom boom music, strobe lights and some scary looking people. Ended up at Jo's eating Ready Brek and looking for brown pants on the internet for Ash. Apparently Pam thinks he has to wear brown pants under a brown suit - went to bed at 4am (never realised pant shopping could be so interesting!). Had a lie in at Jo's (bliss) then back to Lindas for lunch. Met the Morribubbles at Willen. Dan the Hat said in his act that he didn't have a girlfriend so at the end Isabella asked if he'd like her Aunty Jo Jo's telephone No. Sadly he took one look at me & Becks & said 'No Thanks'
Looking forward to speaking to you when you're back on dry land.
Dad - Posted your letter as instructed & had a quick drive by the PH yesterday (all loks O.K).
Lots of love Abi XX
